Film Screening: Paint Me a Road Out of Here

Film Screening: Paint Me a Road Out of Here

Join us for a special screening of Paint Me a Road Out of Here, a moving documentary about the effort to reclaim Faith Ringgold’s 1971 painting For the Women’s House. Created for women incarcerated at Rikers Island, the artwork was long neglected and even painted over by prison staff before being restored and moved to the Brooklyn Museum.

The film follows artist and activist Mary Enoch Elizabeth Baxter, who gave birth while incarcerated, as she works with fellow artists, organizers, and Faith Ringgold herself to bring attention to the stories of women impacted by mass incarceration.

The screening will be followed by a reception and an in-person discussion with filmmaker Catherine Gund.
