Author Visit: Pete Beatty
Pete Beatty's Cuyahoga "is tragic and comic, hilarious and inventive--a 19th centtury legend for a 21st century America set in Northeast Ohio" (Boston Globe). Longlisted for the PEN/Hemingway award, this "very funny, rambunctious novel" (Los Angeles Times) tells the story of folk hero Big Son, through the memorable narration of Meed--apprentice coffin maker, almanac author, and Big's younger brother. The brothers are swept up in the rivalry between Cleveland and Ohio City and Meed must choose between brotherly love and his own ambitions. Mr. Beatty will read from his novel, answer questions, discuss inspirations, and highlight neighborhood landmarks that appear in the novel.
